About

Bengal Muslim Research Institute (BMRI) United Kingdom is a pioneering and independent research institute whose primary aim is to conduct research and publish information about the rich and diverse Muslim heritage in Bengal comprising of East Bengal (now Bangladesh) and West Bengal in India, in doing so BMRI hopes to remove misconceptions and promote knowledge, understanding and awareness of Bengal’s Muslim history, culture, and heritage for the benefit of students, researchers, and the public.

Key Objectives

  1. Facilitate research activities, organise regular seminars and annual conference to raise awareness and promote understanding of Muslim history, culture and heritage of Bangladesh and West Bengal for the benefit of all Bengal’s Muslims.
  2. Create a website to provide up-to-date and comprehensive information about Bengal’s Muslim history, culture and heritage.
  3. Publish books, research papers, e-newsletter, or produce DVDs in order to achieve the above aim and objectives.
  4. Organise seminars, conferences and workshop on Bengal’s Muslim history, culture and heritage aimed at the new generation of Bengal’s Muslims living in the West and in Bangladesh and West Bengal.

The Team

M K Hasan: Founding Director of BMRI UK, an environmental scientist by profession with a PhD in Environmental Sciences from University College London.

M Akhteruzzaman: Founding Director of BMRI UK, a scientist and teacher by profession with a PhD in Environmental Sciences from Imperial College London.

F M Kamal: Founding Director of BMRI UK and a medical doctor by profession, working as a doctor in a London hospital.

M M Khan: Founding Director of BMRI UK, an acclaimed author, literary critic and research scholar. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain.

M Ali: Director of BMRI UK, working as a pharmacist with a PhD in Pharmacology and an MA in Information Technology from University College London.
