BABA ADAM MOSQU
BABA ADAM MOSQUBaba Adam Mosque, the elegant 6-domed mosque of Baba Adam is situated in Rampal close to Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The mosque was built by one Malik Kafur during the reign of the last llyas Shahi Sultan, Jalauddin Fateh Shah in 1483 AD. It displays the same characterstic features of the period such as the faceted octagonal turrets at 4 corners, the curved cornice, the facade and 3 mihrabs relieved richly with beautiful terracotta floral and hanging patterns.
The mosque is named after Baba Adam Shahid, traditionally known to be an early martyr of Islam, whose tomb is nearby. Decoration during this century was subordinated to the building design, so that there is no excess of ornamentation. Large
decorated panels stand out in high relief against plain walls. A thin layer of lime wash, once probably painted, is sometimes still visible on the surface of the terracotta plaques.
