KADAM RASOOL MOSQUE
KADAM RASOOL MOSQUEKadam Rasool Mosque is siuated in the historic city of Gaur, district of Malda, West Bengal and very close to the Firoze Minar.
The Kadam Rasul Mosque is a single-domed square structure built by Sultan Nusrat Shah in 1530 to enshrine a stone reproduction of an impression of Prophet Muhammad’s foot. Some examples of the Shrine of the Prophet’s foot impression are in Delhi and Cuttack, India and the displays in the Topkapi Palace and the Eyup Sultan Mosque at Istanbul, Turkey.
The mosque is made of bricks which still carry traces of the ornamented brick work. The four corners have towers built of black stone with the spires having intricate designs. It has a verandah forming a barrel-vaulted corridor on three sides which is elaborately decorated on the eastern side. Arched entrances pierce the north, south and east sides. In front of the Mosque are the rest shelters which are in ruins.
