TIPU SULTAN MOSQUE

Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque, known as Tipu Sultan Masjid, is situated in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The building was built in 1842 by Prince Ghulam Mohammed, the youngest son of Tipu Sultan. An identical mosque, which was also built by him earlier in 1835 in Tollygunge in the south locality of Kolkata. Both were named after Tipu Sultan, the Muslim ruler of Mysore, who was much feared by the British and after he was defeated the British India administration exiled him with his family to Kolkata, Bengal.
